Severance agreements. Because they involve legal releases, we’re holding this one for now. Until then, the lost-my-job guide covers what to check.

Educational only, not financial or legal advice. This tool estimates costs from the terms you enter and flags common issues that consumer agencies warn about. Common questions

How do I find the true cost of a loan?

Add up every payment you will make plus upfront fees, then subtract the amount you borrowed. The difference is what borrowing costs you. This tool does that math from the terms you enter.

Why does a lower monthly payment sometimes cost more?

A lower payment often means a longer term, so you pay interest for more months. The total cost can rise even when the monthly payment falls.

Are buy now, pay later plans free?

Some are interest-free if every payment is made on time, but late fees or interest on longer plans can apply. Read the plan terms before you agree.

What is the difference between APR and interest rate?

The interest rate is the cost of borrowing the principal. APR also folds in certain fees, so it is usually the better number for comparing offers.
